LESSON ONE HUNDRED

Consonants and Vowel Derivatives -   

This lesson is a compilation of all the letters from the preceding ninty-nine lessons. This final lesson serves as an index and illustrates the formation of the comprehensive symbol set of the Classical Sinhalese Symbols with the addition of my new symbol, for the representation of "Z".

All these symbols are arrainged by the letter classes, and are binary weighted as applied in my improved proposed UNICODE standard[2016].

Theoretically, an extensive symbol set beyond those shown below can be made, but the symbols shown here are the only valid ones ever used in pre-nineteenth century publications. e.g. Rev. Carter's Sinhala English Dictionary.

Please note that some symbols are used exclusively to write Pali with the Sinhala script, therefore you would not encounter these in newspapers, school books and common writings.

The underlined consonants are the Pali ligature forms. When such a symbol is used, the following letter gets automatically attached to the right without a visible separation between adjecent letters, therby forming a Pali ligature.

To identify the entire symbol, place your browser cursor on a letter and move it to the left or right, the entire symbol will get highlighted.

The Seven Consonant Classes are:
